Meet the team

The Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of over 40 specialist staff including consultant psychiatrists, occupational therapists, family therapists, cognitive analytical therapists, cognitive behavioural therapists, clinical psychologists, dieticians, physiotherapists, liaison nurses, nursing staff and a peer support worker.

Clinical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist – Dr Frances Connan

Frances has worked in the service for over 10 years as a consultant psychiatrist. She trained in eating disorders at the Bethlem and Maudsley and completed a PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry. She has published a number of chapters and peer reviewed articles, and presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. She has been a member of the Executive and Academic Secretary for the Eating Disorder Section of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and played a lead role in the development of the Quality Assurance Network for Eating Disorders (QED). She is currently a member of the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Eating Disorders.

Outpatient Lead Clinical Psychologist – Dr Ophelia Beer

Ophelia Beer is the lead psychologist for the outpatient therapy team, and is responsible for the coordination of evidence based psychological therapy at Vincent Square. Ophelia has worked in specialist eating disorder services for the last seven years, having also worked in specialist forensic and personality disorder services prior to this. She has training and experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and has worked on both an individual and group basis with clients with a range of eating disorders.

Acting Outpatient Lead Clinical Psychologist – Dr Matthew Pugh

Matthew Pugh is the acting lead psychologist for the outpatient therapy team. He has worked in specialist eating disorders services for over six years, much of which has been with Vincent Square. He is an accredited behavioural and cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, and is currently completing training as an Advanced Schema Therapist. Alongside his clinical and managerial responsibilities, Matt coordinates research projects at Vincent Square. He has published on a number of subjects including CBT applied to eating disorders, schema therapy and application of psychotherapeutic techniques such as chairwork.

Assessment and Liaison Manager – Kuda Kali

Kuda Kali is the Liaison and Assessment Team Manager, coordinating all new referrals to the service, offering advice/consultation to all agencies wishing to get information about the service and the treatment pathways. She has worked in eating disorders and the service since 2004. She initially worked in the service as a nurse and clinical team leader, gaining extensive knowledge and experience in inpatient service provision. She has been working for the Liaison Service at VSEDS since 2006, managing the team of nurses working with patients who have severe and enduring eating disorders and complex needs across the service sites at 1 Nightingale Place, and Northwick Park Hospital. She took the lead in the setting up of the eating disorder service in Milton Keynes between April 2014 and August 2015. She is also a qualified Cognitive Analytic Therapist and she has been practising since 2009.

Family Therapy Lead - Mark Brayford

Mark Brayford qualified as an RMN in 1989 and undertook a variety of posts in mental health services and has an extensive background working with personality disorders. He qualified as a family therapist in 2001 and specialised in eating disorders in 2005. He is a member of Association of Family Therapy and full member of UKCP.
